Design Trainee
Civil Design | Piping Design | Instrument Design | Electrical Design

We have now completed our recruitment for Design Trainees to start in 2009. We will be accepting applications for the 2010 intake from February 2010

Trainee Technicians

We are responsible for the existence of some of the world's major oil and gas processing plants - plants that provide gas to your cookers and petrol to your cars. We use leading edge techniques, the latest technology and, of course, have the best people to ensure we stay ahead of the game. We are now looking for trainee technicians with good Maths and Science grades in either GCSE, A level, AS level, full or part BTech certificates to join us in one of the disciplines described below Depending on your qualifications, we will sponsor you on a college course either full or part-time. Before starting college, you will spend a few weeks at our office in Greenford to prepare you for the course and give you a good insight into the role of an Engineering Designer. You will be assigned a mentor on your first day whose responsibility will be to guide and support you in your learning, development and career progression. For all the positions, on-the-job training is provided around your course to ensure you get the best from the best and enable you to make a valuable contribution to our business whilst starting you on a fast paced and exciting career that could take you to the four corners of the world. Piping Design and Instrument Design

We design, engineer, project manage and construct process plants for the oil, gas and petrochemical industry and have the breadth of knowledge that spans LNG, Gas Processing, Gas to Liquids, Refining, Ammonia, Ethylene and Offsites/Utilities. That means we have many projects in which you can become involved, allowing you to learn new technologies and develop your skills to the maximum. Our work is global and so are the career prospects, both short and long term. So, everything you see here is just a beginning.

Our Piping designers are responsible for the design of the piping from sizing, composition, thickness, calculating stress levels and layout to safely carry the fluids and gasses at extreme temperatures through the different chemical processes required to achieve the end product.

Our Instrument Designers are responsible for the design of the instrumentation to measure and control the flow, level, pressure and temperature of gases and liquids through the pipe work and the design of the cabling connconnecting these instruments to the Integrated Control System for the plant.

As a Piping or Instrument Design Trainee your BTech course will be in Process Plant Engineering at Richmond-Upon-Thames College, either full time (September to June) or day release depending on your current qualifications. The full time course will also comprise a Basic Technician Training qualification accredited with our industry training board.

The part-time course may be attended a college/university nearer to your home or the office if more convenient.

Civil Engineering Design Trainees

Our Civil Designers are part of a well organised project team and are responsible for the Civil Structural design of a process plant which includes everything from initial site preparation and drainage systems through to design of concrete foundations and structures that support equipment and piping. The Civil group is also responsible for the design of ancillary buildings, offices residential areas that are necessary for the construction and operation of the plant.

As a Civil Structural Design Trainee you will learn modern Civil Engineering techniques with industry leading Technology Systems, using the latest Computer Aided Design software to create virtual 3D models of the civil structural elements and then produce the detailed drawings required to enable construction of the plant on site. As a trainee you will attend a day release at an approved college or university to attain high level academic engineering qualifications.

The part time course may be attended at a college or university nearer to your home location

Electrical Design Trainees

Our Electrical designers are responsible for the design of the electrical and electronic installations to power the plant to ensure continuous operation at peak power within stringent safety limits. You will be given the training and tools to design and quantify the power, lighting and earthing systems associated with our plants.

As an Electrical Design trainee your BTech course will be in Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Richmond -upon-Thames College together with a Basic Technologies Training qualification accredited with our Industry training board. The part-time course may be attended at a college/ university nearer to your home or the office.
