Engineering as a Career-some of the facts

Today's engineers require multidisciplinary skills and may well be employed in a commercial or management capacity in the oil and gas based petrochemical industry. Whatever the area, engineering is a profession for those able to tackle intellectual, technical and operational challenges head-on.

Engineering's contribution to the modern economy is increasingly acknowledged. It underpins every sector from agriculture to defence. The 'unique selling point' for so many products and services derives from engineered capability, whether on the production line or at the petrol station.

Graduates going into the engineering profession can expect to achieve above average starting salaries and be employed in professional or management positions as their careers progress. Prospects within the industry are good with engineers seven times more likely to become a chief executive than any other profession.

Professional engineers have well-paid careers which directly influence all aspects of everyday life. Graduate Engineer, Construction Engineer, Project Services Engineer, IT Engineer, Procurement Associate.

Graduate Engineers (Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Civil, Instrument and Electrical)

As an engineer in M.W. Kellogg you will find yourself working in our project teams developing the design, specifying and purchasing the equipment and materials, and supporting the construction and startup of our clients' plants. You may be working in our London office, or one of our other offices and sites anywhere in the world. You will be expected to work with other engineers, suppliers and project managers to ensure that our design meets all of the requirements for Health, Safety and the Environment as well as meeting the project cost and schedule targets. The one certainty is that every project is different.

Construction Engineers

As a construction engineer you will be responsible for providing construction input into global proposals and projects. As well as the preparation of construction phase costs at proposal stage and the establishment of on site facilities. You will be involved in seeing a project from the initial stages right the way through to its completion whilst carrying out your role. Your role will include providing constructability input into projects by participating in a liaison capacity with other groups during the initial stages to address construction requirements into design inspection standards, specifications and selection of materials. You will be able to apply experience and knowledge to resolve problems in specific area of responsibility. A diverse and challenging role with the opportunity to see how your role progresses as the project does.

Project Services Engineer

As a project services engineer you will find yourself working on engineering and construction projects either in the London office or abroad. You will be responsible for project controls, including cost or planning, possibly both, as a right hand person to the project manager. They will be expecting you to construct and monitor the plans for all work and expenditure, monitor and control progress and/or cost and provide them with progress reports, trends and forecasts to enable them to manage the project. This would encompass cost and plans for procurement of equipment and materials; all the different engineering construction contractors as well as engineering and construction personnel on the project. A challenging role!

IT Engineer

As an IT expert you may find yourself working on global projects within the specialist IT group in the Company. This could involve your working in software programming, supporting software system applications to enable the execution of engineering and construction projects using the latest Information technology, use of the web, databases, communications etc. Information management is a key element in the execution of modern projects and you will be a key member of the team who make it happen.

Procurement Associate

Procurement and Sub Contracts offers a wide and varied exposure in the field of Equipment/Materials supply and Sub Contract services, all who support our Project Design, Construction, Scheduling and Cost requirements.
Graduates will be provided with training opportunities in Purchasing, Logistics, Expediting, Inspection (Quality Control) and Sub Contract letting and administration.
These opportunities are managed via the department, with each Graduate being allocated a Mentor who will provide guidance through the groups activities.
